It has been a long, strange trip, but my first year of graduate school is in the books! Thanks to the support of fellow artist and partner Daniel Lough, my family, and my graduate cohort, I was able to make meaningful progress within my practice.
KC Flatfile June 11 - September 24
I am grateful to be one of 225 regional artists invited to participate in the biennial 2016 KC Flatfile & Digitalfile exhibition. The piece shown above was included in a July Salon wall curated by Maria Elena Buszek, Ph.D., Scholar, Critic, Curator, Denver. If you are in the KCMO area, it is a must-see exhibition.

Apocalyptic Blush opening April 1, 2016 @ 19 Below
Artist Heather Lamanno unveils new series of enticing landscapes at First Friday Opening at 19 Below.
With the subject of the apocalypse drenching our cultural feed, Lamanno uses this as a spring board to push our perception of what is in process of being built and what has suffered some kind of damage/abandoned/being rebuilt. The visual intricacies and color of urban construction have been the focus of Lamanno’s work for the last decade. The draw to these images goes beyond their aesthetic appeal for the artist, as her family connections to the construction industry in Kansas City run deep. Despite the local connection, these new works unfold with a curiosity beyond their local roots.
“I am pushing these landscapes to a place where their physical beauty as paintings and mysteriously chosen subject matter force us to let go of the ideal, fine art-worthy landscape. Dramatic color draws you in, while the multiple planes and dimension demonstrated in the skewed perspective displays an encompassing view like that you experience when you are consciously observing the entire space in your surrounding environment,” said Lamanno during a recent studio visit, while discussing to her newest paintings and transfers.
